Irie san is one of the new tea farmers who has joined the IKKYU venture. We are busy preparing the specific packagings that will « dress up » his wonderful tea, but we couldn’t wait any longer before introducing him.
Irie san has been making organic, pesticide-free tea for 40 years now, and was one of the first to get the JAS organic certification for green tea in Japan. His tea meets the German standards, the most demanding in the world regarding levels of residual chemicals. To make sure his tea is not contaminated by neighbouring fields, Irie san’s are at the top of Yame mountains, in the wild (literally, we had to flee some Japanese hornets, and there was even a wild boar trap...). The whole production of their tea is hand-picked !
With decades of experience behind, he and his son are dedicated to making rich, fragrant and sweet green tea, with no chemicals in sight. The proof? You can actually eat the dirt itself.
You will soon find one of his sencha and matcha on our online store… and he promised us that next year, we will be able to include a few bags of his gyokuro (only 150kg made every year, sold out almost instantly!).
