Takaki san white tea fields in the hills of Yame

Yame is home to the best producers of dento hon gyokuro of Japan, so it is no surprise to see that several of them have also decided to tackle the challenge of the delicate Japanese white tea (see here for more details about its growing process and qualities).

In 2018, we were delighted to introduce the extraordinary white tea of MATSUKO, MIYA and MIYAKO producer Koga san, and this year, we are excited to add to our selection HAKUSEI, a sweet and umami-packed delicacy of HIROKI and HIKARU producer, Takaki san.

In the words of Takaki san, Japanese white tea is brewed like a sencha but tastes like a gyokuro. And for sure, his white tea HAKUSEI is an experience in itself. In your cup, you will find all of Takaki san’s skills honed with dento hon gyokuro.

Look at the incredible and pale color of the leaves after brewing.

It took Takaki san over four years of work to be able to harvest the first leaves of his HAKUSEI. We had visited his field in early 2016 and could see then the very first steps of this long process that demand patience and skills. You can see for yourself the difference, with those pictures shot last year.

As soon as we had our first sip, HAKUSEI became one of the all-time favorites of our team. It is mellow, yet powerful, sweet, round and long-lasting in your mouth. We hope that you will give it a chance and see for yourself!
