It’s flu season... Have a cup of green tea!

High polyphenols !

Every year, we face a recurring threat: influenza! This single word makes all of us shiver. The real, actual flu is not something to make fun of, and is a major health issue throughout the world. It can be life-threatening in case of complications. Vaccination and proper hygiene (wash your hands!) reduce the odds of catching it.

But a good and healthy diet will also boost your body’s natural immunity, to avoid getting the flu, but also to help you recover faster if you do get it. Make sure to add Japanese green tea to the mix! Scientists have demonstrated that polyphenols inhibit influenza virus. This virus is especially sensitive to tea polyphenols, including catechins, found in great quantities in green tea. 

The most abundant tea catechin, EGCG, causes damage to the physical properties of the viral envelope. Thanks to its processing method, green tea is not oxidized like black tea, so the levels of polyphenols are higher*. So why don’t you give a hand to your body?
